## 📦 Use a Barcode Scanner on the POS and in Product Setup

A hardware barcode scanner adds items on the POS and opens or starts products in product setup.

### 📝 On the POS
1. Make sure a shift is open. Scanning with no shift shows **There is no opening shift, please start the shift first** and opens the shift dialog instead.
2. Scan the item's barcode, or type the code into the search box — search also runs an exact barcode match alongside the name search.
3. The scan prefers an in-stock match and adds it straight to the order. A sold-out match shows a **Sold Out** notice; no match at all shows **No product found for {code}**.

### 📝 In product setup
1. Go to **MANAGEMENT → Product → Item**.
2. Scan a barcode: if a product already carries that code — even a delisted one — it opens for editing. If no product has that code, a new product starts with **Barcode** pre-filled.

> **💡 Tip:** Turn on **SETTINGS → General Settings → Product → Hide Barcoded Items** to keep barcoded products off the POS grid — search and scanning still find them.
